Two Nabbed in Gandhi Bhawan Embezzlement Case

The UT police have recently apprehended two individuals in relation to the alleged #embezzlement case at Gandhi Smarak Bhawan, Sector 16. Bhupinder Sharma from Sector 43 and Naresh Sharma from Sector 123, Mohali, will be presented before a court tomorrow. Devraj Tyagi, the main accused, had already been detained by the police.  Anand Kumar Sharan, the general secretary of Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, filed a complaint to the police regarding fifteen suspects for #fraud, which led to the registration of a case in January this year. According to the complaint, Tyagi had organized a function at Gandhi Jayanti in 2022 and collected money for a faux Trust with a similar name to deceive the sponsors. He then forged documents and opened a bank account. A Trust deed was subsequently registered with the Sub-Registrar’s office in Chandigarh on September 9, 2022. Former Labor Union President Admits Involvement in $200,000 Embezzlement Scheme

 The Department of Justice announced the Alton chapter of the AFSCME labor union is reeling from the admission of its former president's involvement in transporting stolen money. Byron Clemons, Sr., 35, of Alton, pleaded guilty in a U.S. District courtroom to one count of Interstate Transportation of Stolen Money after he was caught embezzling over $200,000 from the organization. According to court documents, Clemons withdrew a total of $202,100 from Local 124’s U.S. Bank account from February 2021 to January 2022. He used the funds for personal expenses and gambling at casinos. Clemons was president of AFSCME’s Local 124 in Alton from June 2017 through January 2022.
