Two Nabbed in Gandhi Bhawan Embezzlement Case
The UT police have recently apprehended two individuals in relation to the alleged #embezzlement case at Gandhi Smarak Bhawan, Sector 16. Bhupinder Sharma from Sector 43 and Naresh Sharma from Sector 123, Mohali, will be presented before a court tomorrow. Devraj Tyagi, the main accused, had already been detained by the police.
Anand Kumar Sharan, the general secretary of Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, filed a complaint to the police regarding fifteen suspects for #fraud, which led to the registration of a case in January this year. According to the complaint, Tyagi had organized a function at Gandhi Jayanti in 2022 and collected money for a faux Trust with a similar name to deceive the sponsors. He then forged documents and opened a bank account. A Trust deed was subsequently registered with the Sub-Registrar’s office in Chandigarh on September 9, 2022.
Another suspect was found to have registered various firms and societies at the same address and was running them from the same location. The complaint stated that during the event attended by the Punjab Governor, UT Administrator, UT Mayor, and Additional Solicitor General of India, these dignitaries were misled about the organization that owned the property. Moreover, Tyagi's services were terminated on October 16, 2022. The complainant declared that the principal aim of these people was to illicitly seize the possessions of Gandhi Smarak Nidhi.
